A Place for Moms and Dads to Find New Ideas for the Positive Parenting of Their Children

Welcome to
Parenting Porch!
Pull up a chair and relax!
While I draw on my years as a psychotherapist (MSW, Boston College) and educator, the ideas shared here are for educational purposes and meant for your consideration. I am no longer in clinical practice, and this site is not a substitute for professional mental health treatment. Read and evaluate my parenting suggestions, but use your own best judgment—you are the expert on your own family!
A warm welcome to all who want to be the best parents they can be!

As We Get Started.....
Before we go any further, a point needs to be made. If you want to be a loving and effective parent to your child, and you want her to be a well-behaved, polite, happy child, many of the suggestions in this website/blog could be of help to you. BUT ....
only if you put in the effort!
It's not easy to be a good parent. Heck, it's not easy just keeping your rug rats alive these days! But positive discipline requires discipline of you, the parent, as well. These strategies take thought, anger management, repetition "ad nauseum", and time. So you must be dedicated to the most important job in the world; sharing the growth and development of your child with abiding love and efficacy. Expect to be frustrated! Expect to think "oh, forget this new way, I'm going back to the old way". And when you do, remind yourself that success comes with effort, consistency and time. And the most important job in the world is worth it.
